A mixed-use project on a key site near Miami University has the green light to proceed.
The city of Oxford’s Historic & Architectural Preservation Commission at its July meeting approved a certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of the former Follette’s bookstore building and the design of the forthcoming mixed-use project.
The former bookstore building complex – which is actually four distinct buildings connected over time, the oldest dating from 1839 – sits on 0.45 acres at 110 E. High St., roughly 100 yards from Miami University’s signature gateway entrance.
The project would replace the buildings with a new four-story, 52,400-square-foot structure comprising three residential floors for Miami students above 14,380 square feet of street-level commercial space.
A unit count is not provided, and current designs may not be final in that regard. Nevertheless, what they show is 28 apartment units and 84 total beds.
New York City real estate developer Varick Realty is behind the project.
