Manufacturing startup picks Hamilton for $150M production facility

A newly formed U.S. manufacturing firm, fresh off its first fundraising round, has selected the city of Hamilton for a large facility where it will produce aluminum the company touts as having the lowest carbon footprint among all producers in North America.

Adaptiq plans to build a 200,000-square-foot facility on 31.7 acres on the north side of Tylersville Road in the Hamilton Enterprise Park. The city of Hamilton owns the land and intends to sell it to Adaptiq for $2 million.

Hamilton City Council in its Aug. 26 caucus meeting gave a first reading to the sale and development agreement ahead of a full vote scheduled for the Sept. 9 meeting.

The city in a report filed with the resolution described the company’s initial investment to total more than $150 million, including general targets of $40 million to construct the facility; $95 million for machinery and equipment; $10 million for logistics equipment; and $8 million for startup costs.

The sale and development agreement commits Adaptiq to the above investments as well as a job creation target of 65 full-time equivalent roles and an annual payroll target of at least $6 million.
