Amazon.com Inc., through its subsidiary Amazon Web Services, is in negotiations on a mammoth planned data center in Butler County, according to public statements from multiple administrators and elected officials.
The 601-acre site lies in Madison Township and St. Clair Township just south of the city of Trenton. It comprises farmland and undeveloped land generally straddling Wayne Madison Road and Hawkins Road, stretching south toward Augspurger Road and the Great Miami River.
The project would consist of 18 buildings, according to public statements. Each building would be roughly as large – 220,000 square feet – as the buildings in Prologis’ four-building data center project, which lies northeast of the AWS site within Trenton’s city limits.
The Prologis project carries a price tag of around $1 billion. A source familiar with the proposal put the total investment in the AWS data center at around $5 billion.
