A New York City developer is planning a mixed-use project on a prominent corner next to Miami University’s Oxford campus.

Benjamin Federbush, of Varick Realty, is moving forward with plans to demolish and redevelop the long-vacant former Follett’s bookstore building at 110 E. High St.The project would replace the existing building complex with a new four-story, 52,400-square-foot structure comprising ground-floor commercial space with apartments designed for students in the three floors above.

The city manager’s office staff partnered with the developer and the Butler County Land Reutilization Corp. on an application for state funds through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program to bring down the existing building complex. The Ohio Department of Development in late May announced an $873,000 award for the project.
