New Interstate 75 interchange secures funding to start construction, opens 950 acres for development

Liberty Township’s new Millikin Road interchange along the Interstate 75 corridor now has enough funding to begin construction in 2028. Once built, it will provide the region coveted greenfield space with prime interstate access for new advanced manufacturing, medical research, life sciences and technology companies to move in.

Two years ago, there was a question as to whether the region’s first new highway interchange since Martin Luther King Jr. Drive/Interstate 71 opened in 2017 would happen. Now the question is who will build on 950 wide-open acres and what kind of jobs will they bring to a site that is within a 20-minute drive of 500,000 residents.

“We’ve made a lot of progress,” Liberty Township Administrator Caroline McKinney said. “The reality of the situation is the region is running out of (land) inventory. We want to be a solution for the entire region. We really want this to be a jobs and commerce hub for the community. It’s going to benefit all of Greater Cincinnati as we become that next market. That was very important for our funding partners. You don’t get money from the state (to build a new interchange) for a bunch of multifamily (apartments).”

Ohio approved Liberty Township for the dispositive, key piece of financing in April when Ohio’s Transportation Review Advisory Committee awarded the Millikin interchange $27 million for fiscal year 2028, providing enough funding to build the project.
