GE Aerospace joint venture CFM International signs record deal at Farnborough Airshow

West Chester Township-based CFM International, a 50-50 joint venture between GE Aerospace and French firm Safran, Monday announced a record deal with an Asian airline.

CFM International July 20 announced it had signed a memorandum of understanding with IndiGo, India's largest airline, for more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo aircraft. It is the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines and a record for CFM, according to the company.

CFM and GE Aerospace do not disclose the value of deals they make on engine orders, nor the list price of their engines. India is CFM's third-largest market.

"With a strong installed base, manufacturing in Pune, a broad local supplier network and advanced engineering in Bengaluru, we remain committed to supporting IndiGo’s growth and expanding our presence in India,” GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp said in a news release.
