Global electrical manufacturer plans $155M Southwest Ohio expansion

Switzerland-based Weidmann Electrical Technology is investing $155 million to expand its Ohio operations through the redevelopment of a 350,000-square-foot brownfield site in Middletown. It will bring dozens of new jobs to the region.

The new Middletown facility will feature a next-generation production line for "transformerboard," a material used in the manufacturing and long-term reliability of power transformers. Transformerboard was developed by Weidmann in 1937.

At the same time, Weidmann’s existing Urbana facility, located northeast of downtown Dayton at 700 W. Court St., will expand to support the Middletown operation and meet growing demand for the specialized insulation paper products it manufactures. Together, these investments will enhance domestic supply chain resilience and support global demand for electrical transformer insulation.
